Chief Executive Officer & Medical Director
Dr. Paul Jordaan is the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of StratoMED Air Medical Services. He completed his training in South Africa and worked as an Emergency Physician and General Practitioner in Northern Alberta for 8 years before completing his Anesthesia residency at the University of Alberta. He has expertise in emergency medicine, anesthesia, and transport medicine, with a strong focus on air medical systems and clinical governance. Dr. Jordaan is a member of the Air Medical Physicians association and provides medical direction, protocol development, clinical oversight for air ambulance and paramedic services; he is actively involved in training healthcare professionals in the management of critical illness during transport and in austere environments. Through StratoMED, he works closely with aviation partners to develop safe, high-quality medical transport programs aligned with international best practices and CAMTS accreditation standards.

Dr. Shaun Cowan MD, ACP, FRCSC
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Shaun Cowan is the Chief Medical Officer for StratoMED Air Medical Services and leads the organization’s clinical education and training programs. He is a General and Trauma Surgeon with fellowship training in Critical Care, Intensive Care, and Transport Medicine, and holds an Advanced Care Paramedic certification. Dr. Cowan has extensive experience in austere and combat medical care, rotary-wing transport, ultra long-distance fixed-wing critical care transport, and pre-hospital medicine. He is a member of the Air Medical Physicians Association, a combat medicine instructor, and is certified in Critical Care Echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography.
